Three soccer fans were arrested after hurling racial slurs at fans of the opposing team and performing a Nazi salute during the game in Brazil.

The three men were at the game supporting an Argentinian team on Tuesday night. Authorities say two of the fans were arrested for making a racial slur after aiming monkey chants at other fans. The third man was arrested for racism and “apology for a crime” after allegedly raising his arm to perform a Nazi salute.

Two of the men were freed on bond, but one man remained in jail on a no-bond hold.

If found guilty, the first two men face up to 3 years in prison. The third man faces 3 to 6 months in jail.

Last week, the Argentinian team was fined $100,000 by league officials for racist conduct by its fans.

More about the racist incident can be found here.

Opinion: Football (non-American) is arguably the most racist sport in the world. League officials have been aggressively pushing to reform policies to eliminate racial abuse between fans and players. Maybe America could take cue by jailing racists. Would that be so bad?
