LOS ANGELES — Smokey Robinson is facing a lawsuit after the legendary 85-year-old R&B singer was accused of sexual assault by four former housekeepers.
The lawsuit, which was filed on Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, includes allegations of sexual assault, battery, and creating a hostile work environment.
The lawsuit was filed by four women who were former housekeepers for Robinson, each identified in the lawsuit only as Jane Does to protect their privacy.
The plaintiffs claim that the Motown legend would wait until he was alone with them in his home to perpetrate these acts, which they assert occurred multiple times over several years. The alleged incidents reportedly took place between 2007 and 2024. The women describe a pattern of abuse that persisted throughout their employment, with one accuser stating she was assaulted at least 20 times over a span of 12 years.
The lawsuit seeks at least $50 million in damages, citing not only the sexual assaults but also labor violations, including a hostile work environment and illegally long hours without proper compensation.
The suit also names Robinson’s wife, Frances Robinson, as a defendant, alleging that she enabled his behavior and contributed to the hostile work environment.
