Despite his attempts to appeal to African Americans, an AP analysis of recent polls shows former President Donald Trump remains widely unpopular with Black voters.
According to the AP analysis of two consecutive polls conducted last month by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, about 7 in 10 Black adults have an unfavorable view of Trump — down about 20 percentage points reported in early 2021.
The analysis also indicated Black men and women have similar views of him even though the former president has implied his campaign may resonate with Black men because of his legal issues.
The polls show among all Black adult voters, Trump fared better with Black adults under 45, with about one-third of them viewing him positively compared to about 1 in 10 Black adults who are 45 or older.
But the analysis shows Biden’s popularity has also taken a hit, with about about 6 in 10 Black Americans holding a favorable view of Biden, compared with 8 in 10 Black Americans after he took office.
