Police in San Bernardino fatally shot a Black man who was running away from the officers — a shooting that has sparked outrage and condemnation since video of the shooting went viral.

The shooting happened on Saturday around 8 p.m. The officers were in an unmarked police car conducting surveillance when they reportedly received a tip about about an armed Black man in the parking lot.

A 23-year-old man Black man was in the area and ran away from police when they got out of the unmarked car. At least one officer fired a weapon at the man. Surveillance video showed the man fall to the ground and police standing over him with their guns still drawn.

The man was transported to a hospital where he later died.

Many people on social media have compared the shooting to the recent death of Jayland Walker, who was shot dozens of times by police in Akron, Ohio this month.

It’s unclear if the San Bernardino officers involved in the shooting are still on duty.
