Podcast: African leader flaunts luxurious lifestyle while asking U.N. for money for his impoverished nation

Teodoro Nguema Obiang, the Vice President of Equatorial Guinea, an oil-rich yet impoverished nation, reignited controversy last week over his luxurious lifestyle after he shared videos of himself visiting New York and staying at a $75,000 per night penthouse hotel room.

Obiang made the trip for an appearance at the United Nations, where Obiang requested more financial aid for African countries, including his own, despite Equatorial Guinea being hit with multiple sanctions over concerns about money given to the nation that has not been fully accounted for and multiple scandals.
