PBS shuts DEI office to comply with Trump’s executive order

NEW YORK CITY — PBS is the latest major news organization to announce its plans to end their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive order.

The station made the announcement on Tuesday. Two executive positions were eliminated at PBS’ DEI offices.

PBS is federally funding through U.S. Department of Education and National Science Foundation. The station’s DEI offices began in 2021 following numerous corporations and organizations that pledged more investments in DEI during the George Floyd protests in 2020.

The station has more than 330 member stations, and some of them already, independently, manage their own DEI programs and won’t be required to stop at this point, PBS said.
