NEW ORLEANS — A Louisiana prosecutor announced Tuesday NFL player Kayshon Boutte will not face charges related to illegal online gaming that authorities said happened while he was underage and playing at Louisiana State University.
The Baton Rouge District Attorneys’s office said the decision was made in part because Boutte completed a “gambling awareness” mitigation program. Barbera added that Boutte’s online gambling did not involve betting against himself or his team, and did not cause a financial loss to any person.
The DA’s office also said Boutte agreed to being banned from gaming in Massachusetts and at least two gambling websites.
Boutte, who is wide receiver for the New England Patriots, is still subject to possible suspension by the NFL but no decision has been made.
