The Minnesota woman at the center of a controversial viral video showing her refer to a Black child as the n-word is back in hot water after more than $700,000 had been raised online for her as of Wednesday.
The woman, who lives in Rochester, reportedly started the page to help her family relocate because of the attention she and her family has received.
Per the Associated Press, the woman started the fundraiser on a “Christian” website.
Local community leaders condemned the woman’s comments, including the NAACP Rochester Branch.
“This was not simply offensive behavior —it was an intentional racist, threatening, hateful and verbal attack against a child, and it must be treated as such,” the statement read.
The NAACP called on Rochester police and local prosecutors to investigate the incident.
On Monday, the Rochester Police Department said it investigated the incident and submitted its report to the Rochester City Attorney’s Office for “consideration of a charging decision,” spokesperson Amanda Grayson said in a statement Monday, per the Associated Press.
“RPD takes all reports and allegations seriously and must thoroughly gather information to ensure due process. We recognize the behavior captured in the video has raised many concerns, and we appreciate the community’s patience during the investigation and moving forward,” RPD said in a statement.
It is not known what charges police recommended to prosecutors.
The local NAACP held a town hall meeting on Wednesday with the community about the incident.
