NEW YORK CITY — A federal judge will determine if embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams should continue to face a trial or have his corruption charges dismissed. But on Monday, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced she is considering removing Adams from office.
The Justice Department issued a request for the judge dismiss corruption charges on Friday — following Adams’ private meeting with then President-elect Donald Trump in Florida last month.
Adams has pleaded not guilty to corruption charges in connection with allegations that he accepted more than $100,000 in illegal campaign contributions from a Turkish official during his term as Brooklyn borough president.
The number of Democrats who have recently called on Adams to resign continues to grow as at least four Adams’ top deputies resigned, Adams confirmed on Monday.
Per the judge’s order, a hearing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in a Manhattan court.
Hochul could decide Adams’ fate as NYC mayor as early as Tuesday.
