NEW YORK CITY — Following weeks of speculation, embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced on Thursday he will in deed run for re-election — and he’s changing his party affiliation as he hits the campaign trail.
The announcement came just one day after a federal judge in New York dismissed corruption charges that had dogged Adams since last year.
After meeting with President Donald Trump in February, Adams’ pending trial and political fate began to turn around.
It was widely believed Adams might switch parties, possibly registering as a Republican ahead of the 2025 mayoral race.
Upon hearing the charges were dismissed, Adams promoted a copy of controversial FBI appointee Kash Patel’s book “Government Gangsters” released in 2023 and told people to buy the book as he spoke with reporters.
