Note found at hotel prompts WNBA’s Brittney Griner to pull out of speaking engagement

A note interpreted as a threat reportedly prompted WNBA star Brittney Griner to leave her hotel in Maryland and pull out of a speaking engagement.

The three-word note, which read “Gay Baby Jail” was found taped near Griner’s hotel room, TMZ reported.

Griner, who is married to a woman, took the note as a threat and left the hotel and convention center she was staying at, TMZ reported.

Local police reportedly investigated the matter and said the note was not a threat and Griner was note targeted; the words “gay baby jail” refer to a video game — a convention was being held at the hotel.

Griner made international headlines after she was jailed in Russia and sentenced to 9 years in prison for the possession of less than a gram of cannabis found in her luggage following a flight to Russia in December 2022. Griner had a medical prescription for cannabis in the U.S. but it is illegal in Russia.
