New study finds Artificial Intelligence used in medicine perpetuates racism

SAN FRANCISCO — A new study released on Friday by Stanford School of Medicine is cautioning against the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medicine, warning that popular tools are perpetuating racist and could worsen health disparities among Black patients.

The study was published Friday in Digital Medicine, an academic journal.

Researchers found that popular chatbots responded to their questions with numerous misconceptions and fallacies about Black patients.

Health care experts are concerned some of these AI-powered technologies could do real harm to Black patients, and buoy medical racism, reported The Associated Press.
