New Jersey congresswoman calls out RFK, Jr. for pushing racist conspiracy theories

WASHINGTON D.C. — Congresswoman LaMonica McIver was among the many Democratic lawmakers who rebuked Wednesday’s U.S. Senate confirmation of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS),

“RFK Jr., an unqualified anti-vaxxer and conspiracy theorist, was just confirmed as the Secretary of Health and Human Services. He ignores scientific evidence, champions racist conspiracy theories, spreads misinformation, and endangers reproductive rights,” Rep. McIver said in a statement released on Thursday.

Kennedy has been an outspoken critic of the COVID-19 vaccine and the government health agencies, often publicly sharing unconfirmed and disputed claims about health. Kennedy has also denied past accusations of racism though he continued to promote racist conspiracy theories.

“His policies will make people sicker, restrict access to life-saving treatment, and backslide medical advancements. It’s disturbing that Senate Republicans have embraced such a dangerous person to control the health of the American people,” the statement continued.

McIver, who won late Rep. Donald Payne’s seat in November, is also one of the progressive Democrats who have criticized Elon Musk‘s actions since joining the Trump Administration.
