Who hasn’t heard the phrase “Black don’t crack?” If you’re lucky enough to age gracefully, you live to hear the words as people gush over your youthful appearance. But what if you aren’t among the virtually ageless? There are exceptions to every rule!
Going under the knife — or needle — may seem like an obvious first thought if you are serious about trimming years off your appearance but plastic surgery and Botox may not be the first line of defense. The answer could be in your own hands — literally.
Enter microneedling, a minimally invasive procedure that can be performed at home or by an esthetician.
Microneedling involves the use of a micro needle, also known as derma roller. The device is typically small enough to fit into your hand and uses a roller on the end with needle of various lengthen, typically from 0.25 mm to 3.00 mm and even higher. The needles penetrate the top layer of the skin creating puncture tiny wounds that possibly stimulate collagen production. The procedure usually includes use of a serum or topical solution.
Microneedling can be applied on many different skin types, but people with sensitive skin should use the device with caution or avoid completely, and of course, consult a medical professional before using a micro needle.
Though the procedure can be uncomfortable, it shouldn’t be painful — or cause bleeding.
Results from microneedling routine with a high quality serum can be seen as early within the first month of a treatment.
If the recovery time doesn’t sound appealing enough, the cost might. Micro needles, or derma rollers, can cost anywhere from $5 to $100 or more depending on the brand and quality. However, if performed by a professional, the cost can go up hundreds of dollars.
If you’re serious about your skin by removing wrinkles or firming collagen, derma rolling could be the small tool that gives you big results to achieve a younger look.
