Man who jumped Las Vegas judge’s bench and attacked her sentenced to decades in prison

LAS VEGAS — A man who was captured on a courtroom video that went viral showing him leap over a Las Vegas judge’s bench and attack her was sentenced on Tuesday to up to 65 years in prison.

Deobra Redden, 31, was ordered to serve between 26 and 65 years in a Nevada prison for attacking 62-year-old Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus on Jan. 3. Redden was being sentenced that day for a separate felony battery case when the attack occurred.

In September, Redden pleaded guilty but mentally ill to attempted murder and several additional felony charges.

Redden’s defense attorney Carl Arnold has said the 31-year-old man is diagnosed with schizophrenia and was not taking his prescribed medication at the time of the attack, the Associated Press reported.
