KANSAS CITY, MO. — The 86-year-old man who shot a Black teen who mistakenly rang his doorbell in 2023, is reportedly expected to plead guilty on Friday.
According to the Associated Press, two people familiar with the case, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the AP Andrew Lester, who was scheduled to stand trial next week, will plead guilty. One of the sources also told the AP Lester would plead guilty to a lesser charge of second-degree assault.
In April 2023, Lester shot then-16-year-old Ralph Yarl twice, once in the face, and upper right arm after the Honor student mistakenly rang the man’s doorbell while on his way to pick up his siblings.
