During a news conference, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said an investigation revealed the suspect “intentionally struck multiple pedestrians” with his car outside of a Black-owned gay club around 5 a.m. on Aug. 14.
Police said the hit-and-run happened after the bar had closed and several people were fighting in the street.
Three people were killed in the crash. A fourth victim was reportedly hospitalized in serious condition, but survived.
