Long Beach school officials apologize after students pose for racist photo

LONG BEACH, CA — School officials issued an apology on Monday after students from Cabrillo High School posted a racist photo that went viral.

The photo shows several students lined up in the gym, smiling while wearing T-shirts that read “I (heart) n-words” … with one G.

The Long Beach Unified School District apologized, and said it was it was disappointed by the “disturbing and offensive” photo.

“Immediate steps are being taken to address the situation, and we are working with all relevant parties to ensure accountability,” the statement said in part.

“We sincerely apologize for the harm this has caused to our community,” the statement continued.

In the statement, LBUSD said it was aware students are sharing the racist photos, and encouraged families to discuss at home “the significance of treating other with dignity and respect.”
