LeBron James did some cleaning up Tuesday night on social media explaining his comments about WNBA star Brittney Griner’s detainment in Russia, which were previewed in a trailer for an upcoming episode of HBO’s “The Shop.”

In the trailer for the episode airing Friday, James said if he were in Griner’s shoes, he would have doubts about wanting to return to the U.S. after being detained in Russia for so long.

“Over 110 days, now how could she feel like America has her back?… I would be feeling like do I even want to go back to America?,” James said on “The Shop.”

Today, James shared a post on Twitter clarifying his statements saying, “My comments on ‘The Shop’ regarding Brittney Griner wasn’t knocking our beautiful country. I was simply saying how she’s probably feeling emotionally along with so many other emotions, thoughts, etc inside that cage she’s been in for over 100+ days! Long story short #BringHerHome.”

Last month, the Los Angeles Lakers forward sent a tweet urging President Biden and VP Harris to get Griner released from prison.

Griner has been detained by Russian authorities since February after she was arrested at an airport near Moscow for possession of vape cartridges containing cannabis oil. Griner pleaded guilty to a Russian judge last week. She has also sent a handwritten letter to the White House asking Biden to help with her release.
