A fast food restaurant in Alabama is facing a lawsuit after a former employee who is Black says he was fired for reporting alleged incidents of racism he witnessed on the job.
The lawsuit, which was filed Feb. 26, accuses management of “abruptly” terminating the employee, who was a cashier from May to June 2023, less than one week after speaking up about alleged racist messages exchanged in a group chat with employees and leadership, AL.com reported.
According to the complaint, among the messages the plaintiff said he saw were “displays of a Nazi swastika” and a comment that read “Hitler wasn’t such a bad guy once you get to know him,” AL.com reported.
Per AL.com, the employee reportedly complained to a general manager but the plaintiff was told to “let it go” and no action was taken, according to the complaint.
