Judge dismisses felony charges against former cops in connection with Breonna Taylor’s death

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Most of the felony charges two former Louisville police officers were facing in connection with Breonna Taylor’s death were dismissed by a federal judge.

Former Louisville Police Detective Joshua Jaynes and former Sgt. Kyle Meany were accused of falsifying a warrant that led police to Taylor’s door the night it was raided in 2020. Neither officer was present at the time of the raid of Taylor’s home.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Charles Simpson wrote in his ruling “there is no direct link between the warrantless entry and Taylor’s death.”

However, Jaynes and Meany will continue to face a conspiracy charge for allegedly making false statements to investigators.

Prosecutors said they plan to appeal the dismissed charges.
