ST. LOUIS, MO. — A 70-year-old guard was taken hostage by inmates at a jail in downtown St. Louis, Missouri early Tuesday morning who reportedly demanded pizza and chicken patties.
The guard was taken hostage at the City Justice Center around 6 a.m. while breakfast was being served in the jail. The guard, who was unarmed and has worked at the facility for five years, was assaulted before the detainees took him hostage, reported the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The inmates have reportedly been complaining there wasn’t enough hot meals at the jail.
The guard was released after about two hours and transported to a local hospital.
The guard’s condition was not known.
