BOSTON — Harvard University laid off the staff members that were part of its Slavery Remembrance Program last week — with all of them receiving notice their termination was effective the same day.
The staff expressed surprise over Thursday’s announcement about the terminations because they did not anticipate any layoffs. The program is part of Harvard University’s $100 million Legacy of Slavery Initiative.
The University said it will now outsource the research component of the project.
