Georgetown law professor resigns over racist tweets about Ketanji Brown Jackson

A law professor at Georgetown University has resigned after reportedly sharing a series of racist tweets about Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

The professor made comments about the Supreme Court justice’s nomination because she is a Black woman President Biden selected for the post. He later apologized and deleted the tweets. The apology was also later deleted.

The professor was placed on leave but was rehired earlier this month before resigning from his position this week.

The decision to rehire the professor upset many Black students who felt his presence would be disruptive and he would be prejudiced in a teaching environment.

The professor complained the university infringed on his rights to free speech because his comments on Twitter didn’t align with their beliefs.

More about the law professor who was fired can be found here.

Opinion: Why he wasn’t permanently fired is baffling, and disconcerting. If school policy needs to be reformed to ensure unbiased and outright racist professors have no place there, so be it. Academia should always be about putting students first, not protecting ill-suited professors.
