Four nuns kidnapped by gunmen in Nigeria

Four Catholic nuns were reportedly abducted on a highway in the state of Imo in Nigeria by gunmen.

The nuns were abducted while travelling from Rivers state for a thanksgiving mass on Sunday.

Nigeria has seen an increase in religious violence and kidnappings. Armed gangs and militant groups have been kidnapping Catholic priests and religious leaders for ransom. The abductions are common in the northwest but has spread to other parts of the country.

Nigeria’s military is engaged in an air offensive to get rid of the groups responsible for violent kidnappings in the northwest.
