CHARLESTON, W.VA — The former Cleveland police officer who shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice in 2014 has resigned from a police department in West Virginia, officials said on Wednesday.
White Sulphur Springs City officials said Timothy Loehmann resigned from his position as a probationary officer on Monday.
It was the third time in six years he left a law enforcement agency following criticism and outrage over his hiring.
Mayor Kathy Glover said Loehmann had been hired after receiving a recommendation from the White Sulphur Springs Police Chief D.S. Teubert, according to a statement issued to WVVA-TV.
It wasn’t immediately clear how long Loehmann had been with the police department.
