At least 50 people are reportedly dead and hundreds more have been displaced since heavy rain brought flash floods submerging the state of Jigawa in Nigeria.

About 1,600 people are homeless and many structures, including homes, have been damaged as a result of floods from heavy rain that began in May, according to the State Emergency Management Agency for Jigawa, reported Daily Post in Nigeria.

Flooding this past weekend left 17 people dead in two villages in Jigawa. Another 68 people were injured due to the floods.

On Sunday, a spokesperson for the State Emergency Management Agency reportedly said the recently displaced people are living in some of the 11 temporary camps set up. Some of the displaced individuals are living with family.
