Famous ‘Sugar Shack’ painting draws $15.2 million at auction

Maybe you think of “Good Times.” Maybe it’s Marvin Gaye’s “I Want You” album. However you recall first laying eyes on Ernie Barnes’s famous painting, you probably remember a priceless feeling.

The iconic “Sugar Shack” painting will now have a new home after pulling $15.2 million at an auction yesterday.

The “Sugar Shack” painting was sold to the highest bidder at Christie’s auction house, with bidding reportedly lasting about 10 minutes before it peaked.

”Sugar Shack” is a highly-regarded painting that depicts a packed dance hall for Blacks. It is the most noted work of art by former NFL player Barnes — and now, possibly the most valuable after yesterday’s auction.
