The family of a Black man who was murdered earlier this month in Colorado Springs is demanding answers after police failed to respond to a 911 call initiated by the man’s wife reporting he was taken hostage.

Qualin Campbell, 32, was killed outside of a Taco Bell just one mile from the Colorado Springs police dispatch center.
At a news conference held on June 8, Harry Daniels, an attorney representing the victim’s family, said Campbell’s wife Talija called 911 around 1 p.m. but police didn’t respond until about an hour later.
On the day Qualin was murdered, Talija said her husband, a father of two, sent her a text message with his location and a picture of a man sitting next to him inside of his work vehicle. He then sent text messages saying “911″ and “Send Please!”
Frustrated with the lack of urgency she sensed from 911, Talija drove almost an hour to the location. After she recognized her husband’s car, she found him in a “pool of blood” and performed CPR. She said no police officers had responded to the scene when she arrived.
Colorado Springs police said the death of Campbell is being investigated as a murder-suicide.
Campbell’s family is considering a lawsuit. A GoFundMe for the victim can be found here.
