MAYWOOD, Ill. — Former NFL player Sergio Brown, who has been charged with killing his 73-year-old mother, was denied release during a court hearing on Wednesday.
Brown faces charges of first-degree murder and concealing a homicide after the body of his mother, Myrtle Brown, was discovered near a creek in Maywood, a suburb just west of Chicago.
A medical examiner ruled Myrtle Brown’s death a homicide, and found she was injured during an assault.
At his detention hearing on Wednesday, Cook County Judge Teresa Molina-Gonzalez denied Sergio Brown pretrial release. He will be detained at Cook County Jail until his next court date on Nov. 22.
