NEW YORK — Following President Joe Biden’s announcement he would drop his campaign and support Vice President Kamala Harris, his presumptive successor broke fundraising records, reeling in more than $81 million in donations within the first 24 hours.
The money was raised across Harris’ campaign, including fundraising efforts by Democratic National Committee. It was the highest amount raised by both parties this year. The Harris camp claimed Monday’s total donations were the largest within one single day in U.S. history.
Harris’s 2024 campaign has energized the Democratic Party and catapulted her to the forefront of possible contenders for the official nomination at next month’s convention in Chicago. Harris also secured the endorsements of all 24 Democratic governors, and most of her Democratic colleagues in the U.S. Senate.
