D’Vontaye Mitchell: Four hotel workers in Milwaukee charged with murder

MILWAUKEE — Prosecutors announced on Tuesday that four hotel employees were charged in connection with the death of a Black man who died after an encounter with the hotel’s staff and security on June 30.

If convicted, the four employees each face up to 15 years and nine months in prison for the death of D’Vontaye Mitchell.

The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office said arrest warrants had been issued for all four employees, according to a news release.

According to a criminal complaint, the four employees dragged Mitchell out of the Hyatt Hotel after the 43-year-old man entered a women’s restroom and held Mitchell down on the ground, on his stomach for about eight or nine minutes. One of the employees involved told investigators the man was having difficulty breathing and repeatedly pleaded for help.

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump is part of a team of the legal team representing Mitchell’s family.

More on the deadly encounter and criminal charges the hotel staff are facing.
