On July 3, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced she will move to dismiss charges against Officer Kenneth Cha, who shot Sean Moore during a an encounter with SFPD officers in 2017.

Moore died in prison three years later from complications related to his injuries.

According to CBS News, in a statement, Jenkins said: “We are moving to dismiss the case against Officer Kenneth Cha as we do not believe that we can sustain our burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt that Cha did not act in reasonable self-defense.”

Former District Attorney Chesa Boudin charged Cha with manslaughter in the case in 2021. Boudin was recalled the following June.

Boudin brought three cases against SFPD officers involved in shootings. The cases against the other two officers have also been dropped, according to CBS News.
