SOUTHWICK, Mass. — Six 8th grade students in Massachusetts are facing criminal charges after investigators say they participated in “a hateful, racist online chat that included heinous language, threats, and a mock slave auction.”

During chat on a group that was created in February, some of the teens in the chat made racist and hateful comments, including the desire to commit acts of violence toward Black people. In addition to using racial slurs and racist content, a mock slave auction was held during the chat, which was directed at two students at their school, investigators said.
