SAN FRANCISCO — A claim was filed with the city of San Francisco on Monday after a Black woman was injured during an arrest for allegedly jaywalking.
The incident happened July 29 and was captured on cellphone and surveillance videos obtained by KPIX. The videos show a woman identified as 34-year-old Christina Porter walking across the street inside the crosswalk lanes. As she walks further down the street, surveillance video showed her being stopped by a police officer.
Cellphone video showed the officer and woman struggling as the officer tries to detain her before more officers arrived and arrested Porter.
Porter’s attorney, Lateef Gray with Pointer & Buelna, Lawyers for the People, told KPIX that she is a mother of five children, and was injured during the arrest. He said the videos show excessive force used by San Francisco police officers.
Her attorneys said if the city denies the claim, a lawsuit would be the next step, KPIX reported.
