The woman identified as 31-year-old Yazmeen Williams was shot in the head before her body was wrapped inside of a plastic bag and put inside of a sleeping bag, according to the New York Police Department. The body was discovered around 5 p.m. on Friday.

NYPD said surveillance video recovered by detectives showed a man on an electric wheelchair dragging the bag outside where he left it with trash.

On Monday afternoon, police said a person of interest was in custody.

BLKNewsNow.com has not confirmed if the man being attacked in the video is the person of interest who was taken into custody in connection with Williams’ death.

Williams’ family and friends described her as a caring, loving person who graduated with a degree in criminal justice and wanted to advocate for victims in the justice system. Her mother, Nicole Williams, told ABC 7 New York that last week Yazmeen had started a new job working for the city helping the homeless. Nicole said she and Yazmeen had planned to celebrate her mother’s birthday in a couple of weeks.

“I was so excited for her and so excited to spend my birthday with her, but now I’m not, my baby is gone,” Williams told ABC 7 New York.

The family is now seeking justice for Williams.

No one has been charged yet. The investigation is ongoing.
