Caught on camera: Ohio cops’ use of force on Black man sparks outrage

KETTERING, Oh. –Video circulating on social media Wednesday has sparked outrage on social media, which appeared to show a white police officer repeatedly striking a Black man on the ground while the other officer subdues him during an arrest.

The incident happened on August 18 after police received a report of a “suspicious” person in the area of Wilmington Pike. That’s when the responding police made contact the Black man later identified as 38-year-old Mark A. Coleman, and tried to him into custody, Kettering Police Chief Chip Prostman said during a news conference on Tuesday.

The encounter was captured on police body camera and cell phone video. It has now gone viral on social media.

The video appeared to show a man resisting arrest.

Prostman said the two police officers who arrested the man used reasonable force to subdue him.
