Chicago police have released surveillance and bodycam video showing a 13-year-old Black boy with his hands up when he was shot.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. on May 18 near a gas station.

According to police, officers were trying to stop a stolen vehicle suspected of being involved in a carjacking and kidnapping in Oak Park. When officers approached the vehicle, the 13-year-old boy got out and ran.

Police said the boy turned and pointed a gun at the officer, yet no weapons were found.

The boy was shot in the back, leaving him paralyzed.
