Black residents express distrust in police after neo-Nazi protest in Ohio

LINCOLN HEIGHTS, Ohio — Members of a historically Black city are demanding answers from local law enforcement and boycotting their neighboring city after a neo-Nazi protest turned violent earlier this month.

On Monday, the residents from the Lincoln Heights community came together during a counter protest against hate, traveling in cars through Lincoln Heights and parts of Evendale.

Monday’s display of solidarity was in response to a demonstration on the Interstate 75 overpass between Lincoln Heights and Evendale on Feb. 7, 2025, which connects the two cities. A group of neo-Nazi protestors were seen waving flags and yelling racial slurs Friday afternoon. Knowledge of their presence quickly spread and led to residents chasing them off damaging their getaway vehicle.

Some residents have accused residents of Evendale of being involved in the neo-Nazi demonstration, and questioned the police and sheriff’s departments’ responses to the protest before and during the confrontation between the apparent neo-Nazi group and residents. Many are calling on the community to boycott the adjacent city amid accusations that neo-Nazi protestors came from Evendale.

On Tuesday, Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey called on the state to pass tougher laws on public hate speech and the ability to wear a mask while carrying a firearm.

As for finding the neo-Nazi group that caused the disturbance on Feb. 7, local law enforcement said their identities are unknown and they are untraceable, WCPO reported.

Since the Feb. 7 clash with neo-Nazis, local residents have expressed distrust in local law enforcement and said they feel the need to defend themselves.
