NEW YORK, N.Y. — A Black gay man was stabbed to death in a suspected anti-gay hate crime after he and a group of friends were reportedly dancing at a gas station in Brooklyn, New York.
O’Shae Sibley, 28, was fatally stabbed at a gas station on Saturday just after 11 p.m., according to the New York Police Department.
In a video posted on Facebook, Sibley’s friend Otis Pena reportedly said he and Sibley, who was a professional dancer, were with a group of friends who were dancing and vogueing at the gas station when another group confronted them and hurled homophobic slurs, reported ABC News.
One of the men in the group seen in surveillance video pulled out a knife and stabbed Sibley. Sibley was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
During a press conference on Monday, Mayor Eric Adams said the stabbing was a hate crime.
Police said no suspects have been arrested.
