A Black former employee of a popular electric car maker will get a new trial after rejecting a $15 million award over racial abuse he endured on the job.
The car maker requested the new trial after it was found guilty.
A California judge granted the new trial today.
The plaintiff received the $15 million award earlier this month but declined to accept it after a judge in San Francisco slashed the original award of $137 million by 89%. The judge said the man had two weeks to accept the reduced award.
The judge also said he significantly cut the award amount because it was excessive. The man will have to go to trial again to receive a higher award, if this new jury finds the defendants guilty.
BNN reported on the allegations of racial abuse at this company earlier this month.
