An audit of police data reporting race and ethnicity related to traffic stops performed by Connecticut state troopers indicated that thousands of reports were falsified.
Hundreds of Connecticut state police troopers falsified information on at least 26,000 traffic stops from 2014 to 2021, skewing reports on the race and ethnicity of pulled-over motorists, according to an audit released Wednesday.
According to data analysts with the University of Connecticut, hundreds of state troopers falsified information on at least 26,000 traffic stops from 2014 to 2021. The analysts noted that too many of the motorists pulled over by troopers were identified as White. However, the analysts cautioned they did not try to determine if the falsified data was done intentionally or the result of human error, or carelessness.
Per the Associated Press, Gov. Ned Lamont said the findings from the audit will be sent to the chief state’s attorney’s office for investigation.
