ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, Sr. was indicted for witness tampering after he allegedly asked his teen daughter to recant statements she made to police alleging she was abused by him earlier this year, prosecutors announced on Wednesday.
According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, the 50-year-old mayor was indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday. It is the second indictment for Small in connection with the abuse allegations. He and his wife, La’Quetta, who is the Atlantic City Superintendent of Schools, were indicted in September on child abuse charges.
Small was accused of striking his daughter in the head with broom multiple times in January, causing her to lose consciousness.
According to prosecutors, in September, Small asked his daughter to claim she injured hear after she tripped and fell in her bedroom. head injury she sustained on Jan. 13 occurred when she tripped and fell in her bedroom.
Small has denied the abuse allegations and called the situation a private family matter that did not escalate into a crime. La’Quetta has also denied any wrongdoing.
Per the New Jersey Globe, Small is planning to seek another term and will announce his plans in the coming weeks.
