Apparently, a large section of Twitter users didn’t see Avengers: Endgame — and ironically are quite upset Anthony Mackie will assume the role of Captain America as Sam Wilson/the Falcon in the upcoming film sequel.
The benign controversy took shape last week around the time the sequel’s director was revealed. The Twitter brouhaha prompted former Captain America star Chris Evans to share a tweet that said “Sam Wilson is Captain America.”
Mackie was already announced for the role in Captain America 4 last year.
Sam Wilson is the name of the character who becomes the Falcon in Marvel comic books. Some users were upset because Marvel character “The Falcon” will now lace up the Captain’s boots in Captain America 4, others were upset because a Black man will portray Captain America.
In comic books, the Falcon takes over for Captain America — so the implementation of this storyline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe shouldn’t be a point of contention.
The Falcon also already took over as Captain America in the Disney+ series “Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” (Very creative title, by the way.)
