An anesthesiologist in Brazil was reportedly arrested this month after he orally raped a Black woman who was heavily sedated during a c-section.

Giovanni Quintella Bezerra was arrested by authorities on July 10. The 32-year-old anesthesiologist reportedly drew suspicion from hospital staff because several women were allegedly so heavily sedated under his care that they couldn’t hold their babies after giving birth.

Hospital staff reportedly recorded an alleged assault by setting up a camera, according to Globa Rio de Janeiro.

The woman’s husband was asked to leave the room during surgery. The anesthesiologist was reportedly seen putting his penis in the woman’s mouth while she was sedated.

At least five women have reportedly come forward since the rape allegations surfaced, saying they believe the anesthesiologist did the same to them.
