A 10-year-old Black girl is in custody and her mother was arrested after the girl fatally shot a woman who was fighting with the mother during a confrontation in Florida.

The incident reportedly happened over Memorial Day weekend in Orlando.

The girl’s mother was reportedly in a physical altercation at a barbecue with another woman in their neighborhood over a social media post. During the confrontation, the mother reportedly handed the girl a backpack, that’s when the young girl retrieved a handgun and fired at the woman.

The victim was shot in the head and died.

Police arrested the girl’s mother on multiple charges, including manslaughter by culpable negligence. The girl is now in custody as an investigation continues.

It’s unclear why authorities charged the girl considering her age. A judge also dismissed a request for the girl to be released to her father while required to wear an ankle monitor.
