1 woman killed, 8 wounded after shooting at birthday party in Chicago

CHICAGO — One woman was killed and at least eight more people were wounded after a shooting at a birthday party in Chicago on Sunday, police said.

The shooting happened on Sunday just before 1 a.m. as a group of people were having a luau-themed birthday party. Police said a Black approached and multiple got out of the vehicle, opening fire on the crowd, according to the Chicago Police Department.

CPD held a news conference on Monday with an update on the investigation into the shooting, which police said claimed the life Kanesha Gaines, a 21-year-old mother.

Eight additional people were shot, including seven women and one man, police said.

One woman who was shot eight times remained in critical condition on Monday.

Police are still searching for the suspects and have asked for the public’s help with the investigation.
