The sentencing of a White woman who was driving under the influence and crashed into a vehicle with 4 Black women inside, who were killed in the accident, has sparked outrage.

Heather Finley was sentenced to four years in prison after striking a plea deal with prosecutors.

The four Black women, all mothers with about 8 children between them, were traveling home after leaving a bar in Florida when Finley’s vehicle crashed into their car, killing all four women in 2018, reported WESH.

According to an arrest affidavit, Finley said she was traveling 59 mph in a 35 mph zone at the time of the collision. Prosecutors said three of the women were killed instantly, and the fourth died at the hospital, reported ClickonOrlando.com.

The judge accepted the plea deal and said it was the only way to guarantee Finley would serve time in prison over the crash.

The victims’ families disagreed with the sentencing.
