Newly-released body camera video shows a Los Angeles Police Department officer shooting at an unarmed suspect while they were inside of a moving police vehicle.

The suspect was actually holding a lighter.

In the video, at least three people can be seen exiting the vehicle and running inside a house during the incident on July 21.

The officer did not provide any instructions or commands to the suspect before opening fire.

Following the incident, police officials said it appeared the man had a gun – after it was already established during contact that he was not holding a weapon during the shooting. The only shot fired were from LAPD.

LAPD is under scrutiny for another shooting from earlier this year involving a man who officers knew was not armed with a gun when they shot him.
