The Kansas City Police Department in Missouri is under scrutiny after a Black woman escaped her alleged captor, and at least two other Black women were found dead following warnings from the community about a possible serial killer on the loose. On Oct. 7, a 22-year-old Black woman, only identified by authorities as “TJ” to protect her identity, reportedly escaped from a house in Excelsior Springs, a suburb near Kansas City, and ran to a nearby house crying for help. The woman was allegedly kidnapped, raped, and whipped. She was restrained in shackles during her abduction, reported the Kansas City Defender. The sweater reportedly showed an image of a naked Black man with his genitals covered by a Christmas gift. The fire supervisor sent the image in a text message via the What’s App social media platform along with a message. Another fire supervisor, who wasn’t identified, reportedly shared a different photo — an image of Black man inserted into a scene from “A Christmas Story.” Both fire supervisors were reportedly medics on the SWAT team. A pregnant Black woman was shot 5 times by police officers in Missouri, fueling tension in a local community over Memorial Day weekend. The shooting was reported on Friday night in Kansas City and involved several police officers. Police reportedly said the woman and a man were fleeing an alleged carjacking.
